The strength of OCIMF lies in the collaboration of its members resulting in value creation with solutions. OCIMF provides its members with a platform to collaborate on all important safety, security, health and environmental matters, facilitating sharing of expertise, designing of new standards, lessons learned as well as developing publications to implement these across the sector. Additionally, OCIMF holds Consultative status at the IMO, which allows it to advocate, improve and assist in the development of new regulations to enhance safety and environment for the global sector. 

OCIMF Member Benefits

Other than the collaboration opportunities, benefits of membership include:

OCIMF membership criteria

All Members of OCIMF are oil companies. An “Oil Company” is defined under the Forum’s Constitution as “a company having an interest either directly or through an affiliated or an associated company in the shipment by tanker and / or marine terminalling of crude oil, liquefied natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, their derivatives and related organic compounds.”

Only one oil company within any group of affiliated or associated companies may be a Member of the Forum and shall represent the interests of that group. An “affiliated company” means a company more than 50 per cent of whose voting stock is owned directly or indirectly by another company. An “associated company” means a company that has authorized another company to act for it on matters within the scope of the purpose of the Forum.

Prospective members must demonstrate to the Executive Committee of the Forum that the company has the following-

  • Clear and appropriate reasons for applying for OCIMF membership 
  • That it is a bona fide Oil Company It has a published Safety, Health & Environmental (SH&E) Policy
  • SH&E Statistics and Policy statements to evidence a commitment to the continuous improvement of performance in SH&E matters
  • A robust financial status through provision of Annual Reports or such other documents that describes the applicant company, its shareholding and activities
  • A commitment to become an active member of OCIMF and to promote world class standards consistent with OCIMF’s guidance and recommendations where appropriate
  • Provide a single point contact for all OCIMF matters
  • Appropriate Quality Management Certification
