SIRE 2.0 Training Videos – Human Factors

OCIMF has developed a series of short training videos as part of its commitment to provide ongoing support for inspectors, officers, crew, vetters and operators, during the transition to SIRE 2.0.

These videos explain the human factor and technical aspects of the SIRE 2.0 inspection from each stakeholder’s perspective and aims to help them identify the conditions and systems that influence their behaviour, while promoting safety and excellence across all operations.

OCIMF aims to improve safety and environmental protection in the maritime industry by considering human factors in everything the organisation does.

Human factors are the physical, psychological and social characteristics that affect human interaction with equipment, systems, processes, other individuals and work team(s).

Taking a human factors approach means recognising that it is the people on the ships and in the operations and support teams who make safety work, but that human error still occurs in interaction with conditions, systems and/or other people. It is by addressing these interactions, that we can reduce human error and so, reduce incidents and improve reliability and productivity.

Videos for the Masters, officers and crew

This set of videos has been produced for viewing by ship’s staff to help them understand the importance of human factors within the SIRE 2.0 inspection and how this relates to their role onboard the ship. Ideally, the videos should be viewed sequentially.

The first video is designed to be viewed by all crew with the rest being more relevant for the Master and officers.

Although these videos are aimed specifically at the Master, officers and crew, to get a holistic picture, these stakeholders should also view the videos for the vetters and operators.

These videos can be downloaded and should be circulated to ships for regular viewing by the ship-staff as part of a regular discussion and training programme onboard.

While these videos are aimed specifically at vetters and operators, to get a holistic picture, these stakeholders should also view the videos for the Master, officers and crew.
