Saurabh Sachdeva
Publications & Advocacy Director (Accredited Representative to IMO)

Saurabh brings 25 years of diverse operational and strategic leadership experience from the maritime and shipping industry.

Saurabh joined OCIMF on secondment from bp in April 2021. He is responsible to manage the affairs of the newly formed Publications & Advocacy department and is also the Secretary to Two Principal committees – tanker, barges, and terminals (TBT) and offshore, to ensure governance and management of risk, Health, safety, security, environment (HSSE),  technical standards, environmental social governance (ESG), publications and advocacy.  

In OCIMF, Saurabh leads a diverse team of technical advisers, with an overall responsibility to manage Nautical, Engineering, Security, Environment, Human factors, Offshore, and Regulatory affairs (IMO) activities, and management of communication and publications.  He also serves as the OCIMF’s Chief representative to the IMO, and management of all key relationships with governments, IMO, and industry trade bodies.

Prior to joining OCIMF, Saurabh held series of leadership roles in bp shipping for nearly a decade, with a responsibility to manage global operating systems and standards, strategy, risk, audits, and compliance. He also led shipping’s government & industry affairs, maritime policy, and advocacy.

Previously, Saurabh has also held various senior trade industry positions in the UK, which included heading the British Tug owners’ Association as its Secretary General, Marine Manager at the UK Chamber of Shipping, and a Marine Adviser to the Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB). 

Saurabh professionally trained and qualified as a Master mariner with Command Pilotage in the UK and additionally, holds Masters in maritime operations and management, along with lead environmental and marine auditor qualifications. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (UK), and an elected Younger Brother of the Corporation of Trinity House, London.

Saurabh lives in London with his wife and two kids, and outside of work he enjoys travelling, current affairs, swimming, and tennis.
